Bad times for Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are not looking to end anyhow. After two of its MLA/Minister were been booked under the physical harassment and Sexual abuse cases, New Delhi high court on Thursday set aside an order of the Kejriwal government to appoint 21 AAP MLAs as parliamentary secretaries. This is a major blow for Kejriwal and AAP as they tried to work opposite to Indian Constitution.
On this issue, earlier there’s also been a major controversy and it caused heating up of the political arena in Delhi. Actually, the AAP and Arvind Kejriwal had appointed its 21 MLA’s as parliamentary secretaries on March 13, 2015.
However, the party tried to defend its stand and decision in court by saying that the move doesn’t amount to creating a “public office”. “The provision of parliamentary secretary is merely to assist the minister in connection with the public and the rest of the assembly and ensuring a harmonious functioning,” it had said in an affidavit.
The PIL was filed by an NGO that had sought to scrap of the appointments of the MLAs, saying that it was unconstitutional and illegal to appoint the MLAs like this. This year in June, President Pranab Mukherjee also had refused to sign a bill that allowed the 21 AAP MLAs to hold a second paying position as parliamentary secretary.
However, it can’t be said that this decision might change Kejriwal’s perception or not. Or again he would say “Modi Ji is no letting us work and trying to break our party”.
