Eight BRICS Summit Goa
Goals and Major issues to be discussed
India has adopted an approach for the Summit called I4C which stands for Institution building (to improve and institutionalise BRICS cooperation), Implementation (of the decisions taken in previous summits), Integrating (integrating current cooperation mechanisms), Innovation (innovating through new cooperation mechanisms) and Continuity (to keep up with the existing mechanisms).
PM Modi is expected to hold a special meeting with the President of China Xi Jinping and the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
The global growth prospects will be discussed in the Summit as said by Amar Sinha, Indian Foreign Ministry Official. While Li Baodong, Vice Foreign Minister of China said, “exchange in-depth views on BRICS cooperation and other global and regional issues.”
While recently major Chinese leaders have condemned India over thrashing Pakistan, it is expected that peace talks will commence in Goa as PM Modi is expected to convince President of China over supporting it to persuade UN to name Masood Azhar as an International terrorist.
While Pakistan has been causing India a lot of trouble of late, it will also discuss the issue of ever-rising terrorist attacks and non-cooperation from Pakistan in the Summit. Earlier the SAARC Summit was scheduled to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan but amid rising tensions India had pulled out of it and ultimately the Summit was cancelled.
The BRICS Summit Goa is expected to bring favourable outcome for India.
