Aung San Suu Kyi India tour: Aung San Suu Kyi is on her first visit to India after her party came into power in Myanmar. She is the leading politician of National League for Democracy and the foreign minister of Myanmar. In a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Burmese leader expressed her intentions to engage India more closely.
The two countries have decided upon strengthening their ties on various fronts. It is said that defence and agriculture have been the thrust areas of concern in this meeting.

We as a nation are struggling to make democratic culture take root in our country… We believe that India with its experience so similar to us will help us in our endeavour… We are building a very young democracy and India is helping us, especially with capacity building of our legislators to make sure rule of law is established in our country.

The two leaders have signed three agreements in their meeting relating banking, insurance and defence. Major issues regarding oil and gas, agriculture, renewable energy and health care were also discussed.
We have agreed that a close coordination to ensure security in the areas along our border, and sensitivity to each other’s strategic interests, will serve the interests of both our countries.

The crux of the meeting lied in strengthening its ties with India would be forwarding its helping hand for its ally Myanmar to build better Democracy.
Aung San Suu Ki has an Indian connection since she has graduated from the Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi.
