Dussehra 2016: Dussehra is a pious Hindu festival that is celebrated in India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka with great pomp and show. It is also called Vijayadashami and Ayudhapuja. It is one of the many important and major festivals that are celebrated by Hindus. The festival brings with it great happiness in the life of people. According to the Hindu calendar, it is celebrated on the 10th day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashvin and hence, falls in the month of September or October according to the Georgian calendar.
The celebrations of Vijayadashami are associated with many mythological stories. According to mythology, Dussehra marks the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura who fought for ten days and nine nights. According to another story, on this day, Lord Ram killed Ravana who had abducted Sita, Ram’s wife to his kingdom Lanka.
Pujas are performed on the occasion of Dussehra to mark the happiness of the victory of truth over lies, good over bad and justice over injustice. All the rituals and traditions are performed according to the Vijayadashami Puja Muhurat, vidhi and timings in order to keep the piosuness of the festival.
Dussehra 2016 Puja Shubh Muhurat
The preparations for the celebrations of the holy festival began many days prior to the occasion. The puja and other rituals are performed by the people according to the Dussehra 2016 Puja Shubh Muhurat for the sake of the holy Hindu traditions.
There are commonly three rituals that are followed on the occasion of Vijayadashami, namely, Shami Puja, Aparajita Puja (अपराजिता पूजा) and Seema Avalanghan (सीमा अवलंघन or सीमोल्लंघन). All these three rituals are done during the Aparahna time.
Vijayadashami Puja Vidhi
The Vijayadashami Puja needs a few things to be performed. The things that that you need to prepare for the puja include Banana, radish, gwarphalli (flat cluster beans), Bahikhata, Cow dung, chuna, Image of Dussehra, Jhuwara which is grown on Navratri day, Jaggery, rice, money for offering, kheer, puri, Roli, moli, and flowers.
The Dussehra image is made using the wheat flour/chuna. Roli, fruit, rice, and jhuwara are kept in the cow dung bowls with lid formed by you. Then, the puja is done with the water, radish, roli, rice, flowers and jhuwara. Offerings are offered to the almighty in the form of banana, radish, gwarphalli, jiggery and rice. The old bahikhata or the accounts book is also worshipped using the flowers, roli. jhuwara, and rice.
