Rodrigo Duterte Statement: Rodrigo Duterte the Filipino President who has recently passed many obnoxious comments on the US President Brack Obama and that has made the relations between the two long-time allies bitter.

But recently it seems like Duterte has realised his folly and has reversed his words saying, “It is not the severance of ties. When you say severance of ties, you cut diplomatic relations. I cannot do that.” He further added, “It’s in the best interest of my countrymen to maintain that relationship.”

Well, that’s a clear backtracking from his previous statements. While earlier during his visit to China he announced in the Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, “In this venue I announce my separation from the United States”.
To this the US Department Spokesperson John Kirby said, “We are going to be seeking an explanation of exactly what the president meant when he talked about separation from us. It’s not clear to us exactly what that means and all its ramifications.”
And the US has not forgotten how Mr Duterte asked Barack Obama to “Go to Hell” in his outrageous speech in the Philippines.
At this point, even the Philippines masses are baffled about where exactly is Duterte leading the Philippines with his contradictory statements.
Trade Minister of the Philippines, Ramon Lopez has said “In terms of economic (ties), we are not stopping trade, investment with America….breaking being too much dependent on one side”
Rodrigo Duterte’s spokesperson Ernesto Abella said the President wanted to “separate the nation from dependence on the US and the West, and rebalance economic and military relations with Asian neighbours.”
