Firstly, watch out the Tisca Chopra’s short film Chutney:
Tisca Chopra’s Short film Chutney is a small slight but very assured sturdy and self-composed underneath. It is held together by the smaller performers but a cast with names like Adil Hussain and Rasika Duggal. The cast flits in and out with an energetic anxiety helping the director to create a sense of imminent doom. But what made movie awesome is the Tisca Chopra’s central performance that really holds the plot at the hinges.
The plot of short film ‘Chutney’:
Almost all of the very disturbing plot of Chutney unfolds through a conversation between a housewife from Ghaziabad (Tisca Chopra) and a woman who is a threat to her marriage (Rasika Duggal). Tisca plays the wife with compelling but casual candour.
Her vampy make-up makes her looks very different, but that’s just a part, a very small part of what she does with her part. She gives to the wife a kind of ‘don’t-mess-with-my-marriage’ finality and ‘I-won’t-let-you-cheat’ closure. If Tisca’s wifely concerns were not so tragic, they’d actually be fodder for a black comedy.
Directed by Jyoti Kapur Das and produced and written by Chopra herself, the film’s dark undertone hits you out of the blue towards the end. With a talented cast, Chutney will definitely leave you stunned.
