Around 17 people were killed and 50 others injured after an excruciating crashed between a passenger train and a stationary train in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi.
The accident happened in Gaddafi Town in Landhi area her at 7.18am when Zakaria Express crashed with the stationary Fareed Express at Juma Goth Train station. One bogie of Zakaria Express and two bogies of Fareed Express were completely destroyed in the accident

The news in Pakistan’s news channels showed mangled and overturned carriage. Local media reported rescuers were working to free people trapped in the wreckage. Fareed Express was coming to Karachi from Lahore, while Zakaria Express had set off from Multan.
Geo News reported, the driver of passenger train “Zakaria Express” ignored the signal. As many as 17 bodies and 50 injured have been rushed to Jinnah Hospital, said Dr. Seemi Jamali, head of Emergency Department at the hospital. Most of the injured have head injuries and some are in critical conditions, she added. Due to the jam in the roads, the ambulance carrying patients to the hospital got stuck on the roads. Local administration of Railways has been posted the schedule of all the trains unless the rescue operation is completed.
Government announces to compensate injured and deceased’s family
President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed grief and sorrow for the deceased who have lost their lives in the accident. Sharif ordered an immediate inquiry into the accident and directed authorities to provide medical facilities to the injured.
Railway Minster Khawaja Saad Rafique announced Rs 1,000000 as compensation for the dead and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
The same accident occurred in September in which six persons were killed and over 150 others injured when a Karachi-bound train clashed into a stationary freight near Multan in Punjab province in a pre-dawn accident.
