Punjab Assembly Elections: Just hours after Election Commission of India announced the poll dates for five poll-bound states, Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu confirmed that her husband and cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu will contest the elections from Amritsar East constituency.
Elections in Punjab will be held on February 4 in single phase that announced by Election Commission of India Nasim Zaidi in the press conference and also told that election code of conduct comes into effect.
At the same time, Navjot Kaur Sidhu also confirmed that Navjot Singh Sidhu will soon join the Congress party. She mentioned that he will reach Amritsar one the ticket is confirmed.

Punjab Assembly Elections: Navjot Singh Sidhu is in regular touch with Congress high command, says his wife Kaur
“Navjot Singh Sidhu is in regular touch with Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh. Various rounds of meetings have taken place with the top brass of the Congress. They are preparing the itinerary for Sidhu and whenever they say, Sidhu will join Congress.” Said Navjot Kaur.
It is worth mentioning here that Navjot Kaur had earlier hailed from the Amritsar East Constituency on BJP ticket, however this time she has left the seat for the sake of her husband Navjot Singh Sidhu as she has made clear that they will not contest election together.
Sidhu accused BJP of using him as a decorative piece
Sidhu and his wife had quit BJP last year. Navjot Kaur, who hails from Patiala contested on BJP ticket and won in 2012. She was also a Chief Parliamentary Secretary in the current Akali-BJP government, whereas Sidhu had represented Amritsar in the Lok Sabha election between 2004 and 2014 and had accused BJP of using him as a decorative piece and trying to keep him out of Punjab.
Sidhu had also formed a new political party named “Aawaaz-e-Punjab” in Punjab after resigning from the BJP with former India’s hockey captain Pragat Singh and Punjab MLAs Simarjit Singh Bains and Balwant Singh Bains
