“It’s good that PM Modi’s photo was placed in on the 2017 calendar and diaries published by the KVIC as Modi is a bigger brand than Gandhi”, he said.
Anil Vij added – “The sale of khadi items has increased by 14 percent ever since Modi got associated with it.”
He went on to say that the Indian currency has been devaluating ever since Mahatma Gandhi’s photo has been printed on the notes. He also said that Gandhi’s photo will be soon removed from the Indian currency notes also.
His controversial statement has been condemned by many of his party members, Laloo Prasad Yadav said – “Ye nalayak bete hain desh ke, bohot durbhagya ki baat hai.”
“BJP strongly condemns statement of Anil Vij, its his personal remark and not party’s stand. Mahatma Gandhi is our icon,” BJP’s Shrikant Sharma said in a statement to ANI.
Later, the Haryana minister had to take back his comments.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders condemned the BJP party for the nonsensical comments by its party member and Congress leader R S Surjewala said that only a BJP member can say such a thing.
