Manipur Assembly Elections 2017: The Bharatiya Janata Party has released its first list of 31 candidates on Monday who will contest assembly polls in Manipur scheduled on March 4 and March 8.
Party’s Central Election Committee has finalised the name of deserving candidates in the presences of Party President Amit Shah, Prime Minster Narendra Modi and other senior cabinet ministers.
Names were finalised by committee in the presence of party’s senior leaders
As per the names announced by the party, N. Biren Singh is fielded from Heingang assembly seat, L. Susindro Meitei from Khurai, L. Rameshwar Meitei from Keirao, Thakur Biswajit Singh from Thongju, Nimai chand Luwang from Andro and Ibomcha Singh from Lamlai.
Candidates have also been announced for Sagolband, Keisamthong, Yaiskul, Wangkhei, Knothoujam, Patsoi, Langthabal, Wangoi, Mayang Imphal, Nambol, Oinam, Moirang, Thanga, Kumbi, Lilong, Thoubal, Wangkhem, Heirok, Wanging Tentha, Khangabok, Wabgai, Hiyanglam, SugnooTadubi (ST) and Tamei (ST) assembly seats.
Manipur Assembly Elections 2017: BJP is in the direct fight with the Congress
The polls in Manipur for 60 seats will be held in two phases and the result will be out on March 11. 31 assembly segments will go to the polls in the first phase on March 4. Although, the BJP has not projected yet any chief ministerial candidate, but it is in the direct fight with the Congress in the state.
Formation of new districts in the state, about 80 days old economic blockade by the United Naga Council (UNC) on National Highway and territorial integrity of the state in view of the ongoing talks between the Centre and insurgent naga group NSCN (IM) are the issues which will dominate the election.
