Star Cast: Arjun Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Swaroop Sampat, Rajit Kapoor
Director: R. Balki
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Length: 2 Hours 6 Minutes
Rating: 2.5 out of 5
Plot:
Ki and Ka are based on a modern day concept Bollywood movie, the love story of Kia (Kareena Kapoor) and Kabir (Arjun Kapoor). Basically, the story surrounds around young couple reverses their gender roles. We have seen the same concept used in the Hollywood romantic comedy “The Intern” before which Balki tried to replicate with an Indian twist. Check the Ki & Ka first-day box office collection.
Story:
Kia is a Delhi based modern aggressive lady who wants to become the corporate star. She doesn’t want to marry anyone who comes across her dream to become CEO of a company. On the other hand, Kabir belongs to a rich family and IIM Topper but he doesn’t want to follow his father’s steps and want to become a good homemaker just like his mother. He believes that doing and managing household works are much important than working daily in an office.
After that, Kia and Kabir come to meet and they begin to love each other. In the end, they decided to marry with an agreement, Kabir will do all the household works as he wishes to do before whereas Kia will follow her dream to the corporate world. But later they have to face bad times of their relationship when they face criticism of the people, society, mutual misunderstandings.
Up to the first half of the film, the story building of the lead characters you will find it interesting to sit and enjoy but in the second half all the interest go away from the theater for some unnecessary scenes, dialogues, and useless chaos. Another drawback of the second half of the movie is that the story is limited only within the family, Balki missed portraying what the society saw the reversal of the gender roles of the couple after their marriage. This is one of the major missed out of the script not focusing on portraying other characters other than Kabir and Kia.
Verdict:
The first half of the film is interesting and can make you smile with Kareena’s powerful and fun loving character, on the other hand, Arjun did decent job comparing to Kareena. Both Ki and Ka’s bonding looks cute and lovely on the first half of the story building but later it becomes torture for the viewers and all the good work of the first half go in vain. Basically, Ki and Ka is based on the concept of gender reversal but it fails to attract the viewers till the end.
