After releasing the QUAKE’s five legendary versions of Quake 1,2,3,4, and Wars finally ID software is releasing its Quake Champion version. The first quake was set in a pseudo medieval period, and was a dark fantasy; the second one had been completely sci-fi with ‘Strog’ being the alien character in it while the third was a multiplayer only version. However the 4th version went back to ‘Strog’. By adding Enemy territory in Quake 3 and we get Quake wars. So when Quake champions release was announced by Bethesda at E3 it made everyone wonder which version of Quake would get rebooted now.
All speculations were put to rest when Quake Champions was released with its similarity with Quake 3 Arena which was free to play. As per developer of the game Tim Willits it’s going to be PC only and it’s going to appear in project Scorpio and PlayStation Neo. Also it was known that the characters in the game will have passive abilities and active abilities so that people can choose accordingly. The free to play option is a possibility that the developers are looking at as it needs to create a biggest player base. It’s targeting a 2017 release, it will have special game modes, weapons need to be picked up in map, and it will have matchmaking and ranking systems and seasons as well.
From all the above it looks like an interesting version of Quake to come back. It may be time to welcome a change.
