Lately, there have been many rumours about the possibility of OnePlus launching an updated version of their current flagship – OnePlus 3. But earlier, there was no concrete proof to support this theory. Well, that proof has just cropped up. A screenshot has appeared on Gizmochina which shows the OnePlus A3010, which has been dubbed the OnePlus 3S, with a 3C rating in China. You might be thinking that ‘OnePlus 3S spotted’ tagline is a rather long shot, right? You might not think the same after we tell you that the model number of the current flagship (OnePlus 3) is A3000.
It all started with the reports saying that the OnePlus 3 is out of stock because of the shortage of AMOLED screens. So in order to curb this menace, reports said that OnePlus will launch a refreshed version of OnePlus 3 which would feature an LCD panel instead of the AMOLED one.
It is speculated that the OnePlus 3S could look strikingly similar to the OnePlus 3 with some hardware upgrades. Along with the panel, another chief upgrade could in the form of Snapdragon 821 which will replace the Snapdragon 820.
Why will the OnePlus 3 be upgraded when it is already so popular?
That is the question that must be storming your mind right now, isn’t it? Well, there are some reasons behind it. First of all, profits. If OnePlus will introduce a new phone, it is bound to sell like hot cake because of its top-notch specs along with a reasonable price.
The second reason could be the Google Daydream. We earlier reported that Android 7.0 Nougat is coming to the OnePlus soon. It supports virtual reality but the Snapdragon 820 does not do that. Its successor (Snapdragon 821) however supports virtual reality. Google Daydream has developed a large fan following prior to its launch in November. OnePlus does not want to be left behind in this VR era.
In fact, OnePlus could be the first company to make a VR ready phone which will support Daydream if it launches at the right time.

Other key players like Samsung, HTC, LG, and Motorola have plans to launch such phones but they will be out at fall. This could give OnePlus a good headstart. OnePlus already has the added advantage of price and VR support could just be the cherry on the cake.
OCTOBER 21 UPDATE: Recent reports suggest that it will be called OnePlus 3T instead of OnePlus 3S and the CPU will be overclocked to 2.4 GHz instead of 2.15 GHz.
