UP polls 2017: To unite BJP votes, party national president Amit Shah is going to hold a foot March “padayatra” today in Meerut just a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally on Saturday.
UP polls 2017: Amit Shah to urge people to vote in party favour
The Padyatra will start from Chungi to Ghanta Ghar where Shah will urge voters to cast their votes in party’s favour and also appeal to vote for Meerut Nagar candidate Laxmikant Bajpai, Somendra Tomar (Meerut South) and Satya Prakash Agarwal (Meerut Cantonment.)
Shah will also hold a public meeting in Dhaualan, Ghaziabad and khujra in Bulandshahr. The move comes as the party looks to do well in the communally-sensitive western UP and surrounding areas, where people will vote for 140 seats on February 11 and 15.
“By moving on roads and making one-to-one contact with the public, Shah’s ‘padyatra’ is aimed to mobilise the crowd ahead of PM’s rally, and at the same time send a reply to the joint roadshow of Akhilesh and Rahul in Agra,” said a BJP leader.
Akhilesh-Rahul are scheduled to lead rallies
On the other hand, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi are also going to lead the rally in Agra, from Dayalbagh Engineering College to Chhipitola Chauraha, on Friday.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is also in the state and will address public meetings in Lakhimpur and Etawah, while Union Minister Kalraj will hold meetings in Firozabad, Manipuri and Etah.
Union Minister of state Sanjeev Kumar Balyan will also address a public meeting in Mathura, Anoopshahr and two other constituencies in Bulandshahar on Friday.
