Yesterday, Xiaomi finally launched its much-awaited budget phones Redmi 4, 4A & 4 Prime. They were hitting the news very often and many people were anxiously waiting for theses phones. We reported that the Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A will be launched on November 4 and that exactly happened. However, the premium Prime variant was something that not many were expecting to be launched along with the two phones.
Specifications and features
Let us have a quick look at the specifications and features of the three phones.
Xiaomi Redmi 4
This is the standard variant. It comes with a 5-inch HD IPS display with a pixel density of 294ppi. There is a 2.5D curved glass at the front for protection. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC clocked at 1.4GHz (Cortex-A53). The GPU accompanying this processor is the Adreno 505.
It comes with 2GB of RAM along with 16GB ROM. You can further expand it up to 128GB via a micro SD card. On the camera front, it offers a 13MP camera on the rear with Phase Detection Autofocus and dual-LED flash. The front side boasts a decent 5MP camera.
Xiaomi Redmi 4A
It is a toned-down variant of the Redmi 4. There are a few but significant variations. Firstly, it gets the same 720p IPS display from the Redmi 4 but it does not have the 2.5D curved glass. The processor is a quad-core Snapdragon 425 clocked at 1.4GHz with Adreno 308.
Storage remains the same at 2GB + 16GB (RAM + ROM). The rear camera is 13MP with a LED flash along with a 5MP front shooter.
Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime
This is the premium variant of the Redmi 4. To begin with, it also features a 5-inch IPS display but this time, it is a full HD display with a pixel density of 443ppi. The processor is a decent octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 clocked at 2GHz. Adreno 506 GPU accompanies the Qualcomm SoC.

It further makes things interesting by pumping up the RAM to 3GB and doubling the internal storage to 32GB. Next, the rear camera is again 13MP with PDAF. The Prime version boasts the exclusivity of dual tone LED flash.
What else?
There are some striking similarities as well. All the three phones have the same metal body design. They all come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. Connectivity tools are also the same except that the Prime variant comes with Bluetooth v4.2 while the others offer v4.1 of the same.
Now, the differences. The camera of the Redmi 4A is placed in the upper left corner while the Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime have the lens at the center of the back panel. Also, the 4A does not feature a fingerprint scanner while the other variants have it at their back. The battery of the cheapest variant is also the smallest at 3210mAh while its costlier siblings flaunt a 4100mAh battery.
Price and availability
The prices of these phones are CNY 499 (4A), CNY 699 (Standard), CNY 899 (Prime). This rounds off to roughly $75, $105 and $135 (Rs.4900, Rs.6900 and Rs.8900) respectively.

The Redmi 4A will go on sale from November 11. It will be available in 2 colour variants – Gold and Rose Gold. On the other hand, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime are already on pre-order and will go on sale on November 7. The will be offered in three colour variants, namely, Dark Grey, Gold and Silver.
