Some time back, the internet was stormed with the reports of an upgrade to the current OnePlus 3. Some believed the rumours, while others did not. To everyone’s surprise, Qualcomm announced on its Twitter page that an upcoming device OnePlus will be featuring their latest flagship SoC – Snapdragon 821. Later, OnePlus announced that they will be broadcasting a live event on their Facebook page. All this pointed towards the inevitable launch of OnePlus 3T. And here it is! Finally, it has been launched.
OnePlus 3T Specifications
In an earlier post, we did mention that if OnePlus has to launch an upgraded variant of the OnePlus 3, it will be better for them if they do so in November. That is what happened. Let us talk about its specifications, shall we? It retains most of the hardware from the OnePlus 3 but there are some big upgrades. First of all, the display is the same; 5.5-inch Full HD with a pixel count of 401ppi. There is a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on top to provide some protection against minor bruises.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC has been replaced by the latest Snapdragon 821 (quad-core). This upgrade makes the smartphone VR compatible. Also, the clock speed in the former variant was 2.15GHz (high-performance cores) but the new SoC has been clocked up to 2.35GHz. The GPU remains the same – Adreno 530.

On the camera front, the rear camera is still 16MP whereas the front camera has been upgraded to 16MP from 8MP. This means good news for all the selfie-aholics out there, doesn’t it?
OnePlus 3T also comes with 6GB of RAM. In terms of storage space, it comes with two options, one that offers 64GB while the second option gives you 128GB (UFS2.0) of storage space. OP 3 only offered 64GB variant.
Also, there is a slight bump in the battery. The OnePlus 3T comes with a 3400mAh battery. OP 3 offered 3000mAh battery. Both of them are non-removable Lithium-ion batteries. All other specifications are carried forward from the OnePlus 3. These include Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Hotspot, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, NFC, USB 2.0 Type-C.
OnePlus 3T also uses the same Dash Charge technology to quickly charge the battery. This is also the same from OnePlus 3. The fingerprint scanner is embedded inside the Home button, just like in the OnePlus 3. As a matter of fact, the dimensions (152.7×74.7×7.35mm) as well the weight (158 grams) of OnePlus 3T is the same as OnePlus 3.
Ah, and yes there is this one more thing you need to know. Everyone was expecting the OnePlus 3T to come with Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box, right? Well, that is not really the case. It will be running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with Oxygen OS 3.5 on top. OnePlus announced that Android 7.0 Nougat will be offered via an OTA (Over the Air) update by the end of 2016. Yes, OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will both be upgraded to Android N at the same time.
Price and availability of OnePlus 3T
To nobody’s surprise, the price has been slightly raised. OnePlus 3T (64GB) has been priced at $439 (USD) which means roughly Rs.29,800. While the bigger storage variant will set you back by $479 (USD) which rounds off to around Rs.32,500. The OnePlus 3 was priced at $399 (Rs.27,999).
It will be available in the US from November 22 and from November 26 in Europe. Unfortunately, the price and launch date for India has not been disclosed yet. But we believe that it will be priced a little over the Rs.30,000 mark.
The OnePlus 3T will be offered in Soft Gold and a new Gunmetal colour variant. The Graphite variant has been replaced with Gunmetal.

What else?
When the rumours about the OnePlus 3T started, the company did not comment anything. There were also some rumours which said that since AMOLED display are short in supply, the upgrade will be offering IPS panels instead of AMOLED displays on the outgoing variant. However, this rumour was declined by Carl Pei, the founder of OnePlus. He confirmed that they will be sticking to the Optic AMOLED that they have been using for the foreseeable future.
After Qualcomm posted the teaser, OnePlus announced a live event on November 15 which will be broadcasted live on its Facebook page. That is when they announced the OnePlus 3T.
OnePlus also confirmed that though they have launched OnePlus 3T, that does not mean that OnePlus 3 will be discontinued. It will be still made and sold to anyone who wishes to buy it. However, we would recommend to throw in a couple more bucks and purchase the new variant. This was all folks. Stay tuned for more updates.
