MLA Julius K Dorphang arrests: Absconding Meghalaya independent MLA Julius K Dorphang was arrested in Guwahati on Friday Night. He has charge of sexual exploitation with a 14-year-old girl.
He has been brought to shilling after his arrest. To nab the absconding legislature in the case, Meghalaya police had issued a look out notice. The police have also urged other parties’ members in surrounding states to share information as a man-hunt has begun to arrest the legislator who is a supporter of ruling Congress.
“We have issued a look out notice and we have also conducted raids in many places frequented by the man,” SP City Vivek Syiem had said.

The joint raid was conducted by the state police along with Assam Police in Hatigaon area where the MLA was usually seen, however they could not find there, a police officer who was part of the raid said.
Dorphang was the founder of the militant organisation and surrendered in 2007. He went into hiding when the police booked him under section 366 (A) of the IPC and registered a case under section 3 (a)/4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual offences (POCSO) Act and under section 5 of the immoral Trafficking Prevention Act.
The sex racket came to light after an employee of a guest house owned by senior Congress leader and state Home Minister H D R Lyngdoh’s son was arrested for pimping the victim last month.

Police have rescued the victim from near the guest house and brought to the police station where she unveiled the name of those who were involved in the racket. Police have arrested five of the eight people, including four women named in separate FIRs, have been till date.
At the same time, a local court on January 4 issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Dorphang after the decision the man hunt begun. On the other hand, women activists have demanded that the Chief Minister drop Lyngdoh from his cabinet to permit a fear-free and fair trial.
