A woman in Kerala who was allegedly gang-raped by her husband’s friends was wept when she disclosed her story to the public and said she was forced to withdraw her complaint because of humiliation by the police. Humiliation and threats were more unbearable than rape, says gang rape victim
She further told, rather than rape, the humiliation and threats of police was unbearable. The 32-years-old woman said in Thiruvananthapuram, revealed her painful story while speaking to the reporters with her husband covering their faces.
The woman first shared her story with prominent dubbing artiste and activist Bhagya Lakshmi, whose Facebook post has got viral and has drawn a response from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. She called the artiste after watching her in a TV discussion recently.
“She told me it is fortunate that Jisha and Soumya died or they would have to face repeated humiliation,” Ms Bhagya Lakshmi wrote in her Post. The Chief Minister and Kerala police chief are expected to meet the woman today.
Friends of husband gang raped woman
A gang rape victim said, two years ago when her husband was away, four of his friends came to her house in Thrissur, around 280km from thiruvananthapuram , and claimed that he was in hospital. She went him but they allegedly drove her unusual place outside the city and gang raped her.
After two years victim confided to her husband, who urged her in August to go to the police, “I was called to police station for four days continuously and asked to sit there from morning to evening. I was asked humiliation question,” woman said.
Police forced her to withdraw the complaint
She alleged harassment by the police in her neighbourhood, who allegedly demanded to know why she had gone to the women’s cell. They later gave me a letter and forced to withdraw the case before producing me the magistrate. They made me sign papers but I don’t know what was written in it, she added.
