October 4 is just a couple of hours away. The much-hyped Google October 4 event will be held in San Francisco, USA, where the next flagship devices are expected to be announced. Here are a few things that you need to know about the upcoming Google phones.
Main points of the Google October 4 event
-
Adios Nexus!
Many reports have been suggesting that the next Google devices will no longer be called Nexus. Instead, they will be called Pixel and Pixel XL. This abrupt ending feels like the end of an era as the Nexus was greatly adored by people and created a cult-like following for itself owing to the outstanding performance of the device. They will be manufactured by HTC but will have Google’s logo.

Will come with a heavy price tag
It is estimated that the base variant of the Pixel will cost $650 which puts it in direct competition with Apple’s latest iPhone 7. This price also means that it might get rather a cold response from people keeping in mind that Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi and OnePlus are offering phones with amazing specifications at prices which are almost half of what Google has set for the Pixel. Also, there was a leak in which the specifications were leaked. Take a look at them here.

Voice-controlled speaker – Home
Google is also all set to unveil ‘Home’, a voice-controlled speaker against Amazon’s Echo which is also a virtual reality headset. It has a 9.25-inch tall speaker which responds to the when the users call out Alexa. This name can be changed to Amazon or Echo. With the launch of Home, the battle between tech giants in the voice assistant segment is expected to be further heated up!
-
Digital Assistant by Google
The assistant is believed to be a voice controlled bot, much like Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana and Amazon’s Alexa and will be the Android-maker’s reply to all the competition. It is believed that the assistant will be able to search on the internet, play music and undertake many other tasks.
Also, Google Chromecast with support for 4K might also be launched. There is a slight possibility that Google might say something bout Andromeda.
