Yesterday, Huawei unveiled the Mate 9 and Mate 9 Porshe Design at a press conference in Germany. Both the phones are good while the Limited Edition Porshe Design is getting a lot of attention. This is primarily due to the fact it looks better, sleeker and has slightly better specifications. However, the high price tag that it comes with (EUR 1395 or USD 1600) is proving to be a deal breaker. However, we have some good news for these people. Huawei is planning to launch a cheaper variant of the Mate 9 Porshe Design. It could be named as Huawei Mate 9 Pro.
What to expect from Huawei Mate 9 Pro?
A representative of Huawei has confirmed that the company wants the masses to experience the Mate 9 Porshe Design and has already started working on a cheaper variant of the same. The size of the screen could be reduced. Since it is going to a cheaper variant of the Mate 9 Porshe Design, Huawei will have compromise in some areas. Apart from the screen size, the resolution could be reduced to Full HD instead of Quad HD.

The Huawei Mate 9 Pro will not involve Leica and Porshe. This is something pretty obvious because whenever big brands name are involved, they do tend to add their goodwill and image to the cost of the finished product.
This is the reason why Huawei P9 could not do well. It featured a dual-camera which was developed with Leica. The resulting phone had a great camera but not so impressive hardware for it’s price tag of Rs.39,999. As a result, it could not generate huge sales volume which Huawei expected it to generate. Now again, Mate 9 comes with big names like Porshe and Leica and this makes the incredibly expensive.
Porshe Design, on the other hand, is not new to the phenomenon of making exotic phones. Just like the cars they make, the phones too demand a price that not many can pay. They earlier partnered with BlackBerry (when BB was actually selling) to bring out a number of BlackBerry Porshe Design. All of them exotic and expensive.
What else?
Maybe our earlier report was not wrong. This could have been a part of Huawei’s plan all along! Maybe, the Pro variant is indeed coming but after a brief gap. It is possible that the company just wanted to see how the audience responds to the Porshe Design. A positive respond will mean make a similar cheaper phone. This is what they they did in case of Honor 8 which was based on P9 but priced a lot lesser and it worked like a charm!
If the Huawei Mate 9 Pro is real, it will probably be announced by the end of 2016 and could be launched in early 2017. Stay tuned for more updates.
