Apple is one of the most reputed brands in the world. If something goes wrong with their products, it is bound to hit the headlines. Recently, iPhone 6 touch disease, an issue affecting the touchscreen, came into the limelight. The same problem was found in its bigger sibling, iPhone 6 Plus. Now, Apple has decided that they will be fixing the affected device at a reduced service cost of $149 (USD).
What is this iPhone 6 touch disease?
As the name suggests, the issue affects the working of the display of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus variants. The name of the issue was first dubbed by iFixit. The issue involves a grey blinking area on the top of the screen which is followed by unresponsive touch.

According to Apple, the problem is not in the design but in the way the people handle their phones. That is right, Apple has clearly denied that it is a manufacturing defect. Rather, they said that the iPhone 6 touch disease arises due to repeated drops on a hard surface. They believe that if you drop your device and later incur more pressure on it.
Yep, Apple is blaming your poor handling as the root cause of the iPhone 6 touch disease. Apple, however, has agreed to fix your troublesome iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The repairs will set you back by $149. If you want to get your iPhone 6 or 6 Plus at this price, your phone should not have cracked or damaged display and should be working.
iPhone 6 touch disease sorted out?
You must be thinking that if Apple is offering a fix, that will suffice, isn’t it? If you go by the words of iFixit, merely changing the display will not change anything as iPhone 6 touch disease will make a comeback.
They have quoted repair experts who are of the view that root cause of the problem is not the display. They believe that the problem is in Touch IC chips or logic boards. These are the chips which convert your touch into processable information.

iFixit said that the stress on the phone cause the Touch IC chips connection with the motherboard to be affected and that causes the problem. They also added that they have seen the problem in phones that have never been dropped which contradicts Apple’s claims.
What else?
A lawsuit was filed by Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus owners alleging a design defect in the phones back in August. Apple has agreed to reimburse everyone who has got their iPhone 6 series phone repaired earlier for the same problem. You will be titled to the reimbursement only if you got the repairs from Apple or an Apple authorised service centre.

This means that if you spent $300 on the repairs earlier, Apple will pay you the difference between the original cost and the new ($149) cost i.e. $151. Apple says that it has started reaching out the people who got such repairs done to initiate the reimbursement process.
If you are one of them then you should probably contact Apple in order to get your reimbursement. That is it. Stay tuned for more updates on iPhone 6 touch disease.
